Sparks is a city in Washoe County, Nevada, United States, located east of Reno, Nevada. The population was 66,346 at the 2000 census. As of July 1, 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the population has grown to 88,602. It is often referred to as half of a twin city (i.e. "Reno-Sparks").
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24 square miles (62 km2), of which, 23.9 sq mi (62 km2) of it is land and .1 sq mi (0.26 km2) of it (0.25%) is water. Stormwater surface runoff from the city drains to the Truckee River, a sensitive hydrological element because it empties into Pyramid Lake, which has no outlet and is the habitat of two endangered species. |
